Michael J’s Dimestore Orchesta

1999 – 2002

After I got my heart broke in 1999, I realized I needed to play music again and took my horn back to the streets. One night on King Street I met some restaurant owners from Etobicoke. I put together a trio for their place and eventually Marcel Aucoin subbed in. He had a buddy he’d played with for years, a bass player named Wes Neal (they share a birthday, Sept 11) They had a great feel together so I started writing songs for us. We got a residency gig at the Cameron House and the Dimestore Orchestra was born.

I directed this video. We shot on 16mm film and digital video and it was on the BRAVO channel Top Ten for 10 weeks straight. It was the first time BRAVO ever played any electronic music. (a dark remix by Bernard Maiezza)
